How do I book remote / Zoom appointments?

Appointment Scanner supports scanning for "remote" (also called Zoom or "virtual") interview appointments, if you are eligible.

Are you eligible?

As of April 2022, the DHS is only offering remote interviews to certain Global Entry renewal applicants–not to first time applicants or any SENTRI or NEXUS applicants.

If you're a Global Entry renewal applicant, you can check if you're eligible for remote interviews by clicking the "schedule interview" (or "reschedule interview") button on your Global Entry dashboard. If you are not presented with an option to choose between in-person and remote appointments, you probably aren't eligible and will need an in-person appointment.

To be eligible for the remote interview pilot, TTP members must:

Be conditionally approved for a TTP renewal;

Be at least 18 years of age;

Have a photo on file with CBP that was taken (1) within the past 10 years, and (2) after the applicant was 14 years of age; and

Are there group appointments?

Unfortunately, there are no group appointments. The Trusted Traveler Program (Global Entry, SENTRI, and NEXUS) requires you to schedule individual appointments for each person. This is a limitation of the Trusted Traveler Program itself, not Appointment Scanner.

Can I share one Appointment Scanner account with my family or partner?

Sure, you can share one Appointment Scanner account for your immediate family.

You're just limited to one email address and one phone number per account, so enter the info for the primary point of contact for the the group–whoever will be reacting to the alerts and doing the booking for everyone else. There's no connection between your Global Entry / SENTRI / NEXUS account and your Appointment Scanner account, so it's ok if the phone number and email you use for receiving alerts is different from what's on your Global Entry / SENTRI / NEXUS account.

When the point of contact gets an alert, they should decide which family member to try to book the appointment for. Appointment Scanner is just an alerting service, it doesn’t book appointments for you.

When you receive an alert, it is up to you to log in to your Global Entry / SENTRI / NEXUS account as fast as you can and try to book the interview yourself, just like you normally would.

1. Visit the Trusted Traveler Program (TTP) Site on DHS.gov as fast as you can

To get to the Global Entry / SENTRI / NEXUS site, you can either click the link in the alert, or navigate directly there yourself: http://ttp.cbp.dhs.gov

2. Sign in to your Trusted Traveler Program account

Sign in to your account (which you created when you originally applied for Global Entry / SENTRI / NEXUS).

3. Click "Schedule Interview" or "Reschedule Interview"

On your application dashboard, click "schedule interview" or "reschedule interview" to visit the scheduler page.

You may have temporarily hit the 25 alerts per day limit

Each Appointment Scanner account comes a limit of 25 alerts per day. Most users don't run into this limit, but if you happen to be watching multiple centers that are very busy, or if you've set your cutoff date setting out far, you may temporarily hit this limit. Your dashboard will indicate when you are hitting this limit.

This limit will automatically reset every 24 hours. The reset time will not necessarily line up with any particular time in your timezone, such as midnight or morning in your location, but it will always reset once every 24 hours.

The two ways to adjust the number of alerts you get are to either remove centers or adjust the cutoff date setting. Moving it sooner will give you less alerts, (but the appointments may be harder to claim since sooner appointments are more in demand).

The best strategy is usually just to claim any appointment you can get to start, even if it's months away. Then set your cutoff date setting to that appointment date, so you only get alerted about appointments sooner than that appointment. Then try to reschedule for a sooner one, adjust the date, and repeat for better and better dates. You can reschedule as often as you want.

How much does Appointment Scanner cost?

Appointment Scanner is not a subscription.

Appointment Scanner costs $29 for one month of alerts, with up to 25 alerts per day.

Your account will automatically expire after 1 month. There are no automatic recurring payments, so you will not be charged again unless you explicitly purchase another month. Most users only end up using it for a week or so and do not need a second month.

What if I need more time?

After your first month is up, you can choose to purchase a second month of alerts from your Appointment Scanner dashboard.
